My sis told me of all the violent crime in Bathurst, and she pointed out the "emergency rape/crisis phone" on the road out of Charles Sturt Uni:

That phone (in the first photo) doesn't work. I'm pretty sure of that. I remember someone coming home from the pub, absolutely wrecked and deciding they couldn't keep walking (too drunk), so they pressed the button in the hope someone would come by and drive them the rest of the distance. Waited half an hour. No response. BUT WHAT IF THERE WAS A RAPE? Stupid plastic cops were useless. Only there to break up the fun, never to protect the innocent. Wankers.

Also, the road there is nicknamed "rape station drive" (real name: research station drive), but I'm pretty sure it's safe.........pretty sure.

Joe,

I have seen these emergency button/crisis point phones before; what shocked me was the way in which my sis pointed it out; like it was a landmark or national treasure!

And yr mate pressed the button, you say. You sure he didn't just imagine that, or get so drunk that he missed the button and was merely standing there pushing the white metal surrounding the button? Either way it wouldn't be surprising if the botton didn't work, what with the poor fiscal state of the tertiary sector (dude, from jokes and rape, to politics.... sweet!)
