Digital Dirt #3: THAILAND 2011 - Bangkok 001

...below are the first drop of photos from Doig + My 2011-2012 run-around Thailand, Vietnam + Cambodia.

...this batch is from arrival in Bangkok, THAILAND on Dec. 8th 2011, til Dec. 9th.

Went straight from Bangkok air-port to our randomly-chosen-hotel, the 'Wendy Guesthouse' about 8PM loval time. From 'Wendy Guesthouse' we hit-up Bangkok town; got phone credit - shout out to 'Happy'/'DTAC' telecom! - + beers. Then met-up with our man Gobie - dude works in conflict resolution, so can definately handle the scrapes - for some food the next day. Meeting up with Gobie forced us to use the 'Bangkok Transit System'/'BTS' which is damn good, and had funny ass signs all 'round it banning hawks. Finally ended up spending the arvo getting our temple tripping on...

  • Camera - Canon EOS 450D (digital)
  • Setting(s) - most with automatic focus, some with flash, various ISO + shutter-speed

Highlights below....

Free Water at the 'Wendy Guesthouse', and first taste of asian-english - "With our Complimentary", love it:

Doig on Tuk-Tuk:

....just yr typical Bangkok trash-pile:

Doig with a case of Yellow Fever on the Bangkok Transit System/BTS:

...BUT no hawks allowed on the BTS:

THE most Australian thing i saw in all Bangkok - a beer bottle xmas tree:

...think this sign was warning all to beware a random "bag-snatch" attack from sky or below. Guess they have mole people + angels in poverty and resorting to petty-theft in Bangkok, or some such:

BANGKOK POWER!:

...yeah i don't know either:

...BUT i do know that like ALL Asians seem to love turtles:

Tuk-Tuk driver game-face:

View from the Ratchthewi 'BTS' station:

Just yr typical Bangkok food stall:

...SAME SAME photos of temple-trampin':

....it's damn weird, but at like ALL major shrines there is a safe:

...seems like this Buddha is getting seriously attacked by a turtle.... no idea why... maybe dude owes him a gambling debt?:

Shrine to the King of Thailand: Bhumibol Adulyadej. The King celebrated his 84th birthday - also known as the 7th 'cycle' birthday - like a week before we arrived. There were still shrines up to him EVERYWERE. And in Thailand he is revered as a Buddhist-God-King:

Shrine to King Bhumibol Adulyadej using an image of the King as a young Buddhist monk:

...shrine scampering:

...shrine with no light:

...shrine with light:

Statue + Bearded Giant:

Temple Dog likes to chill:

...."this place is dirty + reeks + what the hell?"; he said. "I know, and i love it"; dude replied.
