Digital Dirt No. 25: 'Encrypted Harddrive'

...well Corrective Services NSW invited me along to a prisoner day release art show.

The results were NOT what i expected. Especially some 'band' calling themselves "Encrypted Hardrive".

UV RACE @ Doldrums - 28th November 2009

getting some reprive from the cop with the half-sleeve....

Ventured into the CBD and a swealtering warehouse-type-party/gig. Bands on the night were BEAUTIFUL, Jack from Kiosk and Circle Pit's new band, and they sounded.... well, new, and like they should swap the drum machine for a real drummer.... hell, even a one-armed drummer. BEAUTIFUL's songs were pretty dark shoe-punk or something, no photos though as i was too busy trying to unnattach my testicles from my asshole (100 people in a small room, with bands playing, on a hot Syndey night equals sweat... and stickyness... anyhow....).

After BEAUTIFUL came WHORES, who have been doing the rounds for a while now. They arn't really good or original or anything, but i love em. Trashy rock-n-roll/country with drunk-style singing. They have enough money, or art-school contacts, to have made a video, which will explain there style much better than my ramblings, check 'Head on a Stick' by WHORES below:

Next to brave the heat was punk-band who seem to really, really like The Replacements, BED WETTING BAD BOYS, and this is were the photos start, sorry......

Tonight was the 2nd time i had seen UV RACE, and they did not dissapoint. Easily the best punk band in Australia at the moment.... in my opinion.

...as is usually the case at these gigs, the crowd was full of lames:

Flip Out festival - 29th August 2009, SYDNEY

...Naked on the Vague left me feeling dumb for not being smart enough to like them, so i say we beat up the wankers:

...James Arthur's Manhunt pulled out some great Texas style fuzzed-up-country-rock. I must ask though, what's with the bear tattoo on the hand?:

...Deaf Wish played a blistering set of swamp-rock-heartache:

...The Stabs, who seemed to have a new drummer, were one of the stand-out bands of the day. Bruised-up-trash-rock, well worth seeing live:

...Goodnight Loving had me smiling and rocking for there whole set! Garage-rock, with a tinge of country.(OR) What Gram Parson's would sound like if he was signed to In The Red records:

...The UV Race blew the whole show apart. Definitely the best band of the night with their killed by death trash-punk aesthetic. Killer live show too:

...Eddy Currant Suppression Ring represent all that is great in Australian indie-rock. Good songs, good stage show and a desire to have a good time, and not over-think the 4th beer of the night. The only gripe is there slower songs really jar after the fast ones. And to the Sid Viscous rip-off in the crowd with me, enough with the inappropriate tough guy behaviour!:

And to the lads i saw getting busted by the cops after the gig, sucked in!

The Vanish - 13th May, 2009, Spectrum

......so i went down to Spectrum on Oxford St to catch my friend's band: THE VANISH. They have been getting press here and there; well worth checking out if your into electro-clash, or went to Private School.

...they only had 2 of their 3 members on stage, one of them did too much coke and missed his flight from New York or something, still managed to rock the crowd...
